The Graveyard book byNeil Gaiman”The Graveyard Book” by Neil Gaiman is imaginative tale with a fable like quality. This is my first book from this author and I totally fell in love with his writing style. This may seem like a children literature or middle grade  book but I feel there is a lot more than that in the story. When I picked up this book I was clueless about whats inside, my guess was pointing towards ghosts and spirits as the title suggested. But I was surprised to find a whole different world of fantasy inside.

When a family is murdered by a mysterious killer except one- a young, diapered boy, who had wandered off just before the crime took place. But the killer needed to complete the job so he starts searching for him. Fortunately for the boy, he was taken in by the residents of a nearby graveyard. And when the spirit of his newly deceased mother asks for their help, the residents agree to raise her son. He is given to the care of the Owens couple and named “Nobody,” Bod for short. He is raised by a group of ghosts and was kept inside the gates, unknown to the outside world. The murderer takes off after failed attempt  of searching. Bod starts his studies and adventures inside, if he leaves that place then he has to  face the danger waiting for him outside.

My rating: 4 out of 5. This book is inspired by ‘The Jungle Book’ if you see closely you can compare the characters. Like Mowgli was raised by a group of wolves, here Bod was raised by a bunch of ghosts or spirits. Sher Khan has been transformed into the man Jack,  and Bhaloo and Bagheera into Silas and Miss Lupescu the werewolf who are protectors of Bod through out the story. Bandar-log in Jungle book were a bunch of silly monkeys causing trouble and here in this book we can compare them to mindless ghouls. I recommend this book to everyone who likes to read a good piece of literature.

Chosen at Nightfall ”Chosen at Nightfall” is the 5th and final installment in ”Shadow Falls” series. A thrilling end to the epic best seller YA paranormal series. It had everything to catch my attention from the first book, a awesome kick ass heroine, love triangle between flawless heroine who is struggling to get to know her true powers, a bad ass werewolf and a handsome faerie.

Now that Kylie is away from shadow fall she is still struggling to to adjust with her kind. To be a chameleon is not that easy they are very strict and old fashioned people who never allow their children to go out to the real world. However angry she must be on her boyfriend Lucas, but she has to return to the camp. There is someone targeting her loved ones and this time she can’t give up. Will she fit in the paranormal world? Will her kind accept her to go into the dangerous task? What will happen to her love life? Who is really in danger? To get answers for this questions you will have to read the book.

I don’t want to spoil the series for others who didn’t read, but I am glad that Kylie made the right decision about her relationship. I am happy about how the series ended. My rating: 4 out of 5. It is must read series for paranormal fiction fans.

Whispers at moonrise”Whispers at Moonrise” is 4th book in Shadow falls series. I devoured this book in a day becuase I really wanted to know what Kylie Galen is as quickly as possible. Kylie is getting ever-closer to discovering the secrets of her identity as a supernatural in ‘Whispers at Moonrise. But with every other crazy thing going on in her life how can she maintain her sanity, is my big question.

This book starts exactly from where the last book ended. Kylie cracked her grandfather’s address and contacted him. Now she is eagerly waiting for him to to come to her with all sort of information, answers about her freaking brain pattern and her identity in supernatural world. But there is something in the shadows of the wood calling for her to come. But there are some personal things she needs to take care of, she needs to sort out her feelings for Derek, the sexy half-Fae who just confessed his love, and Lucas, her werewolf boyfriend who seems more committed to his pack than to their relationship. And also not to forget her mom falling for complete stranger and going out with him as if to take revenge on her step dad. But there is also this mysterious ghost following her with more mysteries to solve.

I felt heart broken for Kylie at the end and it was kind of unexpected ending. My rating: 4 out of 5. I am sure next book is going to be fun.

Taken at Dusk”Taken at Dusk” is the 3rd book in Shadow Fall series. I am reading a lot of series nowadays like ‘Vampire Dairies”, ”Vampire Academy”, ”House of Night”, and ”Drake Chronicles” it is really confusing to remember the stories.

Shadow Fall series is about Kylie Galen  who was sent to a supernatural school where she encounters all supernatural characters like fairies, were wolves, vampires, shape shifters and witches. But she is unable to find out what she is even though she has this ghost whispering powers and some  unknown special powers she can’t decide what she is. In the 3rd book Lucas is back and Kylie is about to fall for him but she learns that his pack is not happy with it. Even though she let go of  Derek there is something which is troubling her while looking his way. Now that Kylie knows who is  her real father, she is searching for real grandparents so that she can know where did her powers come from and do her kind have a name?

It is a good read, but you can only understand the story if you have read  the other two books in the series. My rating: 3 out of 5.

City of BonesCity of Bones is the first book in the series- ”The Mortal Instruments”. A book about paranormal things and has angel and demon concept. I liked reading this book even though I have read many negative reviews about this I just can’t hate this book. But I don’t love this book either. Its just that I enjoyed reading this book and I gave 3 out of 5 which means I liked it 🙂

Now about the story- fifteen-year-old Clary Fray can see things which others can’t see, like a murder committed in the middle of a club where 3 teenagers wit tattoos kill this silver haired guy but she can’t call police because no one can see it and the body is disappeared into thin air. This is her first meeting with Shadow hunters, with in 2 hours Clary’s life is filled with them as only they can help find her mom. Jace is this angel looking shadow hunter who rescues her and with whom she falls in love with. There is a childhood friend of her Simon who is ready to do anything for her because he loves her. But why demons would be interested in ordinary teenage girl? Why was she given this sight to see demons and shadow hunters? Is she special or just a girl who somehow got unlucky and got this special sight?

The movie adaptation of this novel is released recently and as usual book was better than movie. While reading the book entire time I wanted Jace and Clary to be together and while watching movie I was like Simon looks better than Jace. I don’t understand Jace is supposed to be hot, not Simon and  Isabelle is supposed to be way hotter than Clary. Casting of the movie is sure screwed up.

Dark Reunion Dark Reunion is the final book in ”The Vampire Diaries” and I can’t believe the series ended so soon. But I am glad that it has many more series like Return and hunter. 3rd book ended with sad note and I was little disappointed about it. But 4th book started a with bang and ended as I expected.

Elena is dead, Stephen and Damon are gone from the town. But still there is something lurking in the dark, freaking people. When everyone though that evil was gone for good something new has entered the town. Stephen and Damon are  summoned to help Elena’s friends. Will they succeed in defeating the evil? Where is Elena, is she really dead or stuck somewhere?

It is a good quick read,  my rating is 3 out of 5 for this book.

Untamed Untamed is the fourth installment in the popular House of Night YA fantasy series by P.C & Kristin Cast. After reading 3rd book in the series  ”Chosen” I was not sure weather I liked the series anymore. But ”Untamed” was interesting read.

Zoey Redbird’s friends are pissed at her, in one week she has gone from having three boyfriends to having none. With the brutal murders of two important vampire teachers, The House of Night has upped it’s security. But Zoey is not safe, dark evil is slowly raising it’s head. Neferet is playing a dangerous game and has decided to raise an ancient demon. There’s a new powerful fledgling in The House of Night: James Stark who Zoey Redbird immediately forms a connection with. But while going through change he dies! Eric is back but he gives her silent treatment for cheating on him. This book is full of suspense and it is the best installment compared to first 3 books in the series.

It is a good story but few things are repeated.  For example vocabulary lessons from Damien, dressing style of ”Twins” and they are not really related but how they are ”Twins” and how grandmother  calls Zoey the Cherokee word for daughter and how  the word makes her feel safe. People who are reading series will get bored becuase they have read it hundred times before reaching the 4th book. My rating: 2 out of 5. I wanted to give 3 for the interesting story but then looking at the writing style and repeated explanation I gave 2.
