pretty when she destroysAt last, here I am reviewing the final installment of ”Pretty when she dies” series. It was really an exciting and powerful journey through the world of vampires and their special abilities. This series caught my attention from the beginning, becuase there was a unique story line to it. Other than usual blood sucking vampires there were vampires with different abilities like Necromancy and waking the dead.

The Summoner’s power did not diminish with his death, he is planing to bring the end to the world by bringing endless night. Where vampires can rule by feasting on mortals. But  Amaliya and her gang is ready to fight till the end to stop him. Now that Samantha knows her powers and can use it along with Amaliya, Summoner has a new problem to face. But will this be enough to defeat him? Will she be able to fight him, when she is still feeling attracted to him?

It was a good  read, and I recommend this to vampire fiction fans. My rating: 3 out of 5.

A Beuatiful Evil ‘A Beautiful Evil’ is second book in Gods and Monsters series. I read the first installment in the Gods & Monsters trilogy recently and fell in love with it. I was blown away with the setting as well as the mythological elements and while I did feel that a lot of that was a bit lacking compared to the first, then still it is a worthy follow up.

Athena has Ari’s father and Violet. Ari is learning how to fight Athena, all her strength and weakness. Under the threat of her Medusa curse she does not have much time to waste. Now that people are supportive of her idea she has access to ancient library. With little bit research and lot of  training she is now ready to take down Athena. But the war is not that easy as she thought. Her loved ones are at stake here, Athena is threatening to destroy her by using this weakness.

There were few things I didn’t like, for example Athena and Ari attacking and withdrawing many times. I don’t see why there should be more meetings between this two when there is not going to be any real action. And I hated Ari whining at everything like how her life was sad and how she hated the training. My rating- 3 out of 5.

Spirit Bound ”Spirit Bound” is the 5th installment of ‘Vampire Academy’ series. I can now say with certainty that Vampire Academy has just become the classic example of why great books should not be allowed to become series. The only good news about this book is, Spirit Bound is better than Blood Promises.

Rose Hathaway is back in St. Vladimir’s after long and heart breaking journey to find Dimitri and worthless attempt to kill him and miss him. She failed to kill him when she had a chance now he wants to kill her, as she can’t join him and become monster. As she graduates and leaves the campus she has to face the real world where Dimitri is waiting to kill her. But Rose has still hopes for getting him back, she is in search of a cure which can bring him to normal. Who will succeed first? Dimitri in killing her or she finding a way to restore his humanity.

The book was written flawlessly, but at the same time the characters failed to express their feelings.I am burning down the team Dimitri flag and wearing Team Adrin Shirt on. Adrin was loving and understanding, even though Rose was being a bitch and  was still into Dimitri he was okay with that. Deep down I felt that he was really into Rose, even after knowing she was kind of using him. My rating: 3 out of 5. One more book to go to finish the series.

City of Ashes”City of ashes” is the second installment in The Mortal instruments series. I have picked up pretty big series here now I will have to finish it. This book was an average read where it maintained the same voice from the first book. supernatural life, coupled with bits of Christianity sprinkled throughout makes for a fascinating read. It is like I don’t even like the book but I like the story. It has enough excitement to make you read the series, just to see what happens?

Clary’s life can never go back to normal becuase she is a shadow hunter and she knows the truth. But it seems like its geting more and more complicated. Someone in New York City is murdering Downworlder children. When the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul-Sword, is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor arrives to investigate and suspects her brother Jace for stealing it. Clary is still trying to control her feelings for Jace and she doesn’t want to hurt Simon either.

My rating: 3 out of 5. It is a good time pass read, I recommend this to Paranormal YA fans. But make sure to read the first book in the series before you jump into this one.

CarmillaCarmilla is a pre-Dracula vampire tale first published in 1872. I was excited to finally read the story that is really the grandmother of the vampire tale. This is a very important book in a historic sense because it was published 25 years before than Dracula. Also, it presented lesbian situations, it was a pioneer book in two subjects- Vampires and Lesbian literature.

The story opens on a young woman, Laura, living with her  father in an isolated Austrian village. A carriage accident forces a matronly women to ask Laura’s father to care for her daughter for a few weeks while she continues her urgent journey. Carmilla is a beautiful girl who is left by her mother starts staying with them, soon Laura notices some attraction between them beyond friendship one can never explain it but only feel. She becomes weak day by day and unnatural deaths around the village speciously goes high.

You can never compare this to modern Vampire novels because it was written centuries back and I think we should appreciate the author for his creativity and imagination which inspired others to write about vampires. My rating: 3 out of 5. It is a must read book if you are a vampire fiction fan.

Pretty when she kills”Pretty when she kills” is the second book in ”Pretty when she dies” series. I find these titles little weird and funny but I like this series. When I started reading the second book I was bit disappointed but still I have high hopes for the series.

Amaliya thought she had finally found happy ending with Cian, the master of Austin. After defeating the strongest enemy she though she has nothing to worry now but master of  San Antonio is behind her power. He wants to capture her and use her powers. A mysterious man is hunting Amaliya with the help of her one time lover, Pete, and Rachon, the Summoner’s favorite progeny, appears to be out for revenge. But Amalia is lucky to have supportive family and friends. But this time will they help her or is she alone in her battle?

My rating: 3 out of 5. Few parts were repeated from the previous book but the story was not boring. I finished this book in one day. Amaliya’s necromancer power is new concept, I am waiting to read the 3rd book in the series- ”Pretty when she destroys”.

Blood PromiseI enjoyed VA series so far but this book was real disappointment. I felt there was far too much recap of the previous 3 books. Just like ”House of Night” series by P. C Cast I can see Mead repeating the story from previous books. Rose was very strong character from the beginning but in this book author made her weak and helpless.

Shadow Kiss” left us with Rose on the way to find and kill her beloved Dimitri who had fallen during a fight with Strigoi. “Blood Promise” picks up where Rose is looking for traces of Dimitri. In search of Dimitri she reaches his home and brakes the sad news to his family. I don’t want to go any deeper and spoil the story for those who didn’t read it yet.

I didn’t like this book for few reasons. (*Spoiler alert*)

  1. Rose is no longer a terrible character. She is a love sick weak woman who lost her warrior side and lost her goal when she saw Dimitri and became his blood whore.
  2. Lisa’s character was  silly sometimes.
  3. Story goes around and around with out coming to the real point

My rating: 2 out of 5. I didn’t like author turning Lisa in to a bitch and Rose into a blood whore. I enjoy reading about their friendship and like them for what they are. Hopefully the 5th book is good to read.
