Hannibal RisingHannibal Rising is the final installment in Hannibal Lecter series. This story is about Hannibal Lecter’s childhood and the time before he became ”Hannibal the Cannibal”. I loved the first two books in the series and from the third book it went down hill for me. Seriously what is it? mockery at him, the genius of a cannibalistic serial killer. A huge disappointment. I had my hopes way up. Who can blame me? Red Dragon and The Silence of the Lambs were freaking masterpieces. Probably, had I read it before knowing who Hannibal Lecter was, I would’ve enjoyed it more.

Hannibal Lecter was not a killer by birth, there were some situations made him to do it and molded him to what he became later. He was found mute, a chain attached to his neck. His uncle and his beautiful wife, Lady Murasaki took him in. But he is not alone, he has his demons with him in his mental palace. Slowly he tries to visit his demons and gets his memory refreshed. As he becomes friends with this demons, he becomes death’s prodigy.

you were to keep aside the fact that you do not know Hannibal Lecter and none of his traits, then you might enjoy this read. My rating: 2 out of 5.

The Da Vinci Code The Da Vinci Code is  much discussed controversial book of Dan Brown. Believe it or not, last December I started this book  and just couldn’t finish it. I quit hundred times before I finally  finished the book. I really don’t know what was the big hype about but this is surely not what I expected. I liked Angels and Demons better, that’s the first Dan Brown book I read.

Symbologist Robert Langdon was supposed to meet Jacques Sonier one night and instead, he gets called to the Louvre, the scene of Sonier’s horrific death. French police officer, Fache, thinks that Langdon is the murderer. Fortunately, Sophie  intervenes to shunt Langdon away. And then they are off, trying to avoid being arrested, trying to find the “Grail”, and trying to discover who killed Sonier. Now what is this Grail and what is the secret Jacques Sonier was trying to protect even on his deathbed?

Spoilers ahead*

This book has been quite controversial.A lot of Christian and Catholic churches were not happy about the claims Dan Brown makes in this book example how Jesus married Mary Magdalene and how the Church was manipulative in hiding that fact. I am not from this religion so I don’t know much about this. I don’t know if Jesus was married, tradition has it that he was not. I don’t think if you have real faith in someone his marital status will not affect your faith. And more than anything this is just a fictional crime novel which revolves around religion.

My Rating: 2 out of 5. I didn’t like Langdon in this book. He spent a lot of time talking about history, symbols, sacred femininity. This book was boring with a capital ”B”.

The body finderI really don’t know how to rate this book, I did enjoy it in parts and it was definitely not boring, but I had expected more. The Body Finder is first book in ”The Body Finder” series. It has got some great imaginations and ideas.

Violet can sense echoes, feelings, smells, colors or sounds left behind by murder victims, which not only make it possible for her to locate dead bodies but also to find their murderer. So far she had to deal with finding dead animals but when a cruel serial killer is on the loose in her hometown she witnesses more than that. When she finds victims of this killer she believes it to be her responsibility to stop him. With her ability to smell and sense the murderer she starts off to find him but soon she realizes that she is in danger. In meantime she has to deal with  Jay, her best friend since childhood and fast growing feelings for him.

The crime part was flat here, I expected a list of suspects and bit more action. It was more into romantic kind, but I enjoyed reading this book. The concept is new and fresh. My rating: 2 out of 5. I may read the sequel but not anytime soon.

amelia anne is dead and gone”Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone” is YA fiction. It is a well written book with small town setting and parallel character development. The story goes around a murder case but if you think its just another crime novel, you are wrong.

Becca is a small town girl with her big ambitions to break free. But  discovery of an unidentified dead girl on the side of a dirt road sends everyone including Becca into into a tailspin. Becca’s summer and the last chapters from dead girl Amelia’s life are woven in parallel manner.

This book’s title and cover are captivating, despite my desire to like this book, it just fell short of every expectations. But have to agree with wonderful writing of Kat Rosenfield. But I personally did’t feel closer to any character. There was no love in relations and the characters were just twisted according to the plot. The ending was unbelievable and unsatisfying. Main story and sub story was tangled and at some point it lots its sense. Everything was so convoluted. My rating: 2 out of 5. I gave this rating by keeping the story in mind.  But personally I feel that Kat Rosenfield is a gem of a writer and her writing skills are amazing but just this story didn’t make sense to me.

The winner stands alone Its hard to give harsh review for Paulo Coelho’s book, being his fan I just can’ do it. But I have to because thats my job being a hardcore fan. I had been looking forward to read this book and when I got the opportunity to read, I am just disappointed. If this is about to be your first Paulo Coelho book,  please don’t read it, I assure you he is an author who is capable of much more than this. Simply by reading this book you may spoil your perception of him as an author.Having read his books like – ”Brida”, ”The Alchemist”, ”The fifth mountain”, ”Veronica decides to die”, ”By the river Peidra I sat down and wept” and many more I decided to read ”The Winner Stands Alone”. I was totally into this title and was expecting a good story and a lot to learn about life from this book. But later regretted my decision of reading this book.

When I started to read this book, in the beginning I was amused but slowly amusement started to turn in to frustration. First I was reading about a person who is emotionally suffering and  wants to get his wife back in his life at any cost. But then it was about everything- fashion industry, film distribution, diamond extraction, cloth manufacturing and what not. Repetitive complaining and mindless deeds took my imagination nowhere. I couldn’t imagine this characters  as living and full of feelings as I usually do while reading other books from this author. These were plain and annoying bunch of people who didn’t know what to do with their life. Story is about a rich man named Igor who is in Cannes festival in search of his wife who is remarried and happily living with some other man. Igor wants his wife back by taking lives and showing her how much he likes her. At first I thought it was little mystery crime story or about psycho killer or about celebrity life but it was nothing but boring. I still don’t understand what is the hidden meaning behind this story, I don’t see any moral or inspiration in what Igor did or I don’t see how the title is suitable for the story.

Somehow I was obliged to finish the book because I hate to leave books half read or  maybe I was just hoping against all the odds that through some miracle the story will take a twist and ending will justify the means. But that didn’t happen, I am not saying his every book should contain some moral or inspiration but at least it should have a decent story to read. My rating 2 out of 5. I wanted to give 1 but then I could’t do that to my favorite author’s book.

Red Dragon I loved Dr. Hannibal Lecter from the book ”The silence of the lamb” which is second book in Hannibal Lecter series. Then I decided to read this series to get more details about Hannibal Lecter. ”Red Dragon” is the first book and it doesn’t give much information about Hannibal as  Will Graham takes the major role here. But still Hannibal succeeded to give the readers  creepy feelings few times.

FBI Special Will Graham has retired and lives  with his new wife Molly and her son Willie. He is retired becuase of the nearly fatal encounter with Hannibal Lecter, whose capture he was responsible for. But then his peaceful life was disturbed by his old boss when he came asking for help catching a serial killer named ” Tooth fairy” who killed two families so far. The Tooth Fairy, a serial killer who is named becuase of the tooth marks he leaves and for dicing his victims with shards of broken mirrors. But Will Graham decides to visit Hannibal in his asylum where he is kept guarded. But his encounter with Hannibal brings back the memory and the bitter realization that he can track killers becuase he can think like a killer. Killer is a fan of Hannibal and soon he tries to get in touch with Hannibal through letters and papers which is found out by FBI. Will Graham in his weak mental condition can he catch the killer? Who is this Killer who calls himself as The Red Dragon? What is the mystery behind all these murders?

I totally liked this book. Unlike other books it gives complete information about killer somewhere when you reach the middle of the novel. You will  know who is the killer, his childhood and his mental condition.  It’s like  you are just witnessing how he is killing and how FBI is working to catch him. The mystery is revealed in the beginning but getting hold of this mystery is a big mystery. I liked author’s  writing style. My rating: 3 out of 5. I heard there is a movie adaption by the same name, planing to watch it soon.

Reptide I got this book from some random book store last year. I wasn’t aware of the author or the title before, just picked up because wanted to read something new and different. This was lying in my ”to read” list from one year and finally I read it last month. This is really kind of different from what I usually read. This is thriller, murder mystery with lot of suspense and twist.

Sergeant Sarah Delaney has a past which is haunting her everyday. But it becomes worse when she is assigned to solve a murder mystery in Caxton, the place where her boyfriend Tom had lived – and where he died. When she goes to Caxton, to those places and beaches where she lived before and had memories created, her past slowly starts to reveal. Not only past but also a mystery which is related to current murder. What is her past? Is it related to the current murder case? What had happened to her boy friend, even though he is dead why does she hate him?

It is  a good time pass mystery novel to read. In few places I found loose ends, where the story could have been more strong. But over all a good story with fine twists. Not that predictable ending! My rating: 2 out of 5.
