The Da Vinci Code The Da Vinci Code is  much discussed controversial book of Dan Brown. Believe it or not, last December I started this book  and just couldn’t finish it. I quit hundred times before I finally  finished the book. I really don’t know what was the big hype about but this is surely not what I expected. I liked Angels and Demons better, that’s the first Dan Brown book I read.

Symbologist Robert Langdon was supposed to meet Jacques Sonier one night and instead, he gets called to the Louvre, the scene of Sonier’s horrific death. French police officer, Fache, thinks that Langdon is the murderer. Fortunately, Sophie  intervenes to shunt Langdon away. And then they are off, trying to avoid being arrested, trying to find the “Grail”, and trying to discover who killed Sonier. Now what is this Grail and what is the secret Jacques Sonier was trying to protect even on his deathbed?

Spoilers ahead*

This book has been quite controversial.A lot of Christian and Catholic churches were not happy about the claims Dan Brown makes in this book example how Jesus married Mary Magdalene and how the Church was manipulative in hiding that fact. I am not from this religion so I don’t know much about this. I don’t know if Jesus was married, tradition has it that he was not. I don’t think if you have real faith in someone his marital status will not affect your faith. And more than anything this is just a fictional crime novel which revolves around religion.

My Rating: 2 out of 5. I didn’t like Langdon in this book. He spent a lot of time talking about history, symbols, sacred femininity. This book was boring with a capital ”B”.

The body finderI really don’t know how to rate this book, I did enjoy it in parts and it was definitely not boring, but I had expected more. The Body Finder is first book in ”The Body Finder” series. It has got some great imaginations and ideas.

Violet can sense echoes, feelings, smells, colors or sounds left behind by murder victims, which not only make it possible for her to locate dead bodies but also to find their murderer. So far she had to deal with finding dead animals but when a cruel serial killer is on the loose in her hometown she witnesses more than that. When she finds victims of this killer she believes it to be her responsibility to stop him. With her ability to smell and sense the murderer she starts off to find him but soon she realizes that she is in danger. In meantime she has to deal with  Jay, her best friend since childhood and fast growing feelings for him.

The crime part was flat here, I expected a list of suspects and bit more action. It was more into romantic kind, but I enjoyed reading this book. The concept is new and fresh. My rating: 2 out of 5. I may read the sequel but not anytime soon.

amelia anne is dead and gone”Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone” is YA fiction. It is a well written book with small town setting and parallel character development. The story goes around a murder case but if you think its just another crime novel, you are wrong.

Becca is a small town girl with her big ambitions to break free. But  discovery of an unidentified dead girl on the side of a dirt road sends everyone including Becca into into a tailspin. Becca’s summer and the last chapters from dead girl Amelia’s life are woven in parallel manner.

This book’s title and cover are captivating, despite my desire to like this book, it just fell short of every expectations. But have to agree with wonderful writing of Kat Rosenfield. But I personally did’t feel closer to any character. There was no love in relations and the characters were just twisted according to the plot. The ending was unbelievable and unsatisfying. Main story and sub story was tangled and at some point it lots its sense. Everything was so convoluted. My rating: 2 out of 5. I gave this rating by keeping the story in mind.  But personally I feel that Kat Rosenfield is a gem of a writer and her writing skills are amazing but just this story didn’t make sense to me.

Reptide I got this book from some random book store last year. I wasn’t aware of the author or the title before, just picked up because wanted to read something new and different. This was lying in my ”to read” list from one year and finally I read it last month. This is really kind of different from what I usually read. This is thriller, murder mystery with lot of suspense and twist.

Sergeant Sarah Delaney has a past which is haunting her everyday. But it becomes worse when she is assigned to solve a murder mystery in Caxton, the place where her boyfriend Tom had lived – and where he died. When she goes to Caxton, to those places and beaches where she lived before and had memories created, her past slowly starts to reveal. Not only past but also a mystery which is related to current murder. What is her past? Is it related to the current murder case? What had happened to her boy friend, even though he is dead why does she hate him?

It is  a good time pass mystery novel to read. In few places I found loose ends, where the story could have been more strong. But over all a good story with fine twists. Not that predictable ending! My rating: 2 out of 5.
