Memories of a Geisha“The heart dies a slow death, shedding each hope like leaves until one day there are none. No hopes. Nothing remains.”

Memoirs of a Geisha is an amazing novel that discusses the life of a Geisha, a Japanese artist-entertainer. I’d been wanting to read this one for a very long time. I got mixed feelings while reading this book, so many emotions passed through me. I read this book last month and for almost 2 weeks I had hangover!

A slave, sold by your own family, and trained for the sole purpose of pleasuring men, whether you like it or not. Imagine living such a life where you don’t have enough happiness left inside you but still you have to make others happy.Geisha are not prostitutes, the happiness they give is purely from hanging around in tea house with gentlemen who seek their company and poring them tea, Sake and listening to their stories, telling them stories and jokes.

This is a story of a girl Chiyo who was sold into geisha training in Japan. Her struggles to achieve the goal and turn into a geisha. But this story is so unpredictable. Chiyo’s love for Chairman and Nobu’s interest in Chiyo, their customs and traditions to become Geisha is so complicated. I loved all characters even though some characters were real trouble to the main character.

I have watched the movie right after reading the book. In movie they haven’t changed much may be that’s why I liked the movie too. My rating is 4 out of 5 for this book. I recommend this book to fiction lovers.

One dayStory of this book was brilliant! But there was something missing in the book, I failed to find till the end. It is Romance between friends, felt like old wine but in new bottle.

It is a different love story between friends, Emma and Dexter meet each other on graduation day (Emma had crush on Dexter before) and after that day they were separated because there were no strings attached. But their friendship grows with time, even though they date different people they can’t get each other out of their minds. Emma is kind of frustrated with life, always with low spirit, and thinks that her life can not be better than present. But Dexter is optimistic person who always wants to travel or meet new people and do something different. Over 20 years, both have got enough experience in life and have seen thick and thin situations but their affection is still the same. Will the accept that they love each other? What will be the ending of this different love story of friends?

I picked up this book, because I wanted to watch the movie. I always prefer reading books before I watch movie, in that way I don’t spoil my reading and I can compare it with the movie. But after reading this book I am having second thoughts about watching this movie. Anyways it was an average read, I rated it 2 out of 5. I didn’t find anything that special about this book, there were lot of unnecessary things in between the story. It was in best seller list, then again may be it was only me who didn’t like it!

Its late for a review! I know, all Hunger games fans are already given the review. And all reviews are positive about the movie. I watched it on 22nd March thats last week and liked it. If you read my previous reviews about novels and  movies based on novels, you will find that I always felt books are better than movies. When a novel is adapted as a movie, they will always end up spoiling it. But this one is quite opposite.

This post is not about review. I should say that I am little confused after watching this movie. When I read this book I thought Peeta and Katniss will make a good pair. As Peeta was supportive and liked Katniss and helped her to win,I liked his character. I didn’t understand why Katniss had problem to accept his love. He is so innocent and lovable.

Peeta and Katniss

But after watching  the movie I liked Gale’s character too. He liked Katniss, and took care of her family in her absence and he looks good too. So I don’t know who will be suitable pair for Katniss now. Peeta or Gale?

Whom do you think as a good pair? I know I am acting like a crazy fan but I am as confused as Katniss 🙂 Now I am reading  the second book ”Catching Fire”, may be I will get an idea after reading this.
