I wanted to get scared, after ‘the exorcist’ and ‘Dracula’ I didn’t come across any book that scared the hell out of me. I want horror books to haunt me, I love watching horror movies and reading about real life incidents. Don’t get me wrong, I am not the bravest person, actually no where near brave ūüôā I am just fascinated by the idea of all these. I can get scared in plain day light ūüėČ ūüôā

So  I picked this book which was in horror category. It says real life story so I had to read this. I did a quick research about  Ronnie DeFeo, 23, was convicted of shooting his parents, brothers, and sisters. George and Kathleen Lutz thought it was ideal place to move into with their 3 kids after buying this place complete with finished basement, swimming pool, and boathouse. Twenty-eight days later, they fled in terror, leaving most of their belongings behind.

It was a good read, but bit slow. By coincidence ¬†I started waking up in between 3 AM to 4 AM after reading this book. I really got scared to even go to washroom, cause in the book, at the same time scary stuff happened to the people who were at that house. I used to wake my husband and ask him to stay awake until I return from wash room ūüôā

I read in internet somewhere that George Lutz was into black magic. I think that is why he chose that place believing that¬†Ronnie DeFeo killed his family under the influence of devil and he might be able to practice his black magic in that house. But something went terribly wrong and his magic backfired on him. I read that one of his kids accused him of practicing Satanism and magic even before they moved to into the quiet suburban neighborhood on the south shore of Long Island, New York. He recalled the family‚Äôs bookshelves lined with books on the occult and demonism.¬†Anyways we don’t know what really happened. But this story is interesting if you are a horror lover. My ratings: 3 out of 5. A one time read which I can’t forget easily.

My Horizontal Life- A collection of one night standsChelsea Handler is a comedienne best known for her show, Chelsea Lately, as well as her previous books (Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea and Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang). As the title indicates, this book contains several funny incidents about authors one night stands. Here author tells the disasters of one night stands she has experienced in her life.

Chelsea isn’t shy and she loves a lot of men, which lead to a lot of night stands.¬† In MY HORIZONTAL LIFE Chelsea chronicles her escapades with a Vegas stripper, a well endowed little person, a cruise ship performer, her landlord, her gynecologist, a Washington politician with a coke habit, black men, Latino men, small penised men. And also she tries to get her virgin roommate to have some fun with men by hooking her up, which ends in even more big disaster.¬†

After reading this book it seems like author really has got this slutty streak, whatever! but this book was hilarious. But I enjoyed her previous book- ”Are you there Vodka? It’s me Chelsea” better. My rating: 3 out of 5. It was a light and funny read.

The Diary of a Young Girl”The Diary of a Young Girl” ¬†is the real Diary of Anne Frank,¬†a thirteen-year-old Jewish girl. She wrote it locked up in the attic where she spent last years of her life fearing Nazi’s attack. Cut off from the real world, they faced ¬†hunger, boredom and continuous threat. But that was the only way to survive. They lived each and everyday in fear, terrified that someone will find out their secret hideout. But Anne Frank was bold enough to write in a diary it was like her secret pleasure and time pass. If you read the book you can find her growing from a innocent girl to a teenager. But she had a real strong will, if she survived the war she would have grown to be a marvelous person.

It was a good book, I can’t really call it as a book because it is not. It is a diary of teenager who struggled to survive. I don’t get the negative comments about this book. This is someone’s diary for God’s sake, not a book to entertain people. So if people think that this is boring and they could’t finish, how can you expect someone to have an interesting life when locked up in the attic? And for those who think that the book is not written properly, Hell she is 13-14 years old, she didn’t write to get an award. I don’t think anyone should criticize something which was written by a 13 year old under that circumstances.

This is the book you should read if you are a fan of documentary  and fiction.

Are you there vodka it's me ChelseaChelsea Handler is a great writer. I have never seen any of her TV shows but I am sure it will be total fun to watch her performing. This book is witty, hilarious and absolute fun, or whatever way you want to describe comedy. I think I love her, she brings out the evil maniacal laugh in me. But everything in here is not mean comedy. I was sitting at my desk at work,  just laughing out loud and generally annoying my co-workers.

There is no proper story line as this book contains the incidents from author’s life. So I am not going to review this book. Here I will mention some hilarious¬†sentences from this book, which made me laugh out loud.

  • ‚ÄúI went out with a guy who once told me I¬†didn’t¬†need to drink to make myself more fun to be around. I told him, I‚Äôm drinking so that you‚Äôre more fun to be around.‚ÄĚ
  • ‚ÄúObviously, if I was serious about having a relationship with some one long-term, the last people I would introduce him to would be my family.‚ÄĚ
  • ”My negotiation skills are are on par with George Bush’s reading ability. And just like Dubya, every time I’ve tried to put forth an effort, I am reminded that my only true strength lies in drinking.‚ÄĚ
  • ¬†Our dog, Whitefoot, had died four months earlier, the day after my mother passed away. People say that pets can sense when¬†one of their owners is dead, and I definitely believe that to be true. However, my father has convinced himself that Whitefoot died of a broken heart, when, in fact, I believe it was a suicide. Had we notfound him lying dead next to an empty bottle of Tylenol PM and what appeared to be the beginning stages of a suicide note, I would also have believed he died from sadness. I couldn‚Äôt blame Whitefoot.¬†The thought of spending the rest of my life alone with my father would drive me to take my own life too”

My rating : 4 out of 5. Best book to read for time pass and laugh out loud.

A Child Called ''It''Get one thing straight, you little son of a b*tch! There is nothing you can do to impress me! Do you understand me? You are a nobody! An It! You are nonexistent! You are a bastard child! I hate you and I wish you were dead! Dead! Do you hear me? Dead!

This book contains very disturbing and unforgettable case of child abuse. It is the first book in ”Dave Pelzer” series. This book is very short read, but believe me¬†¬†it is not the kind of book that you read for pleasure.

A Child Called ‚ÄúIt‚ÄĚ is real story of Dave Pelzer’s childhood where he went through severe child abuse by his own biological mother.¬†What kind of mother will make her son sleep in empty stomach? and beat him until he passes out? What kind of mother will come up with new ideas everyday to torture her son? and¬†his father witnessed his son being abused but never once stood up for him?¬†The way the author described his feelings and struggle to get something to eat ¬†was really heartbreaking.

I don’t know if it is a true story of this author,¬†because¬†I have read many reviews stating it is fiction and not at all related to reality! But¬†seriously¬†who cares what it is, child abuse is true and¬†exists! May be not similar one but child abuse is a¬†serious subject. This is a vitally important topic, according to me this book tried to bring the topic to light. My rating 3 out of 5.¬†Recommended for autobiography and non fiction fans, but please¬†be careful about the disturbing contents.
