Dog days is the 4th installment in Dairy of a Wimpy kid series. I have always read these books in one setting, easy to read and interesting too. I read this series when I want to take break from major crime, fantasy and romance novels. These are more of a summer read types. I always admired author’s humor and the way he narrates the book.

Gregory is having a summer time playing video game all day long. While his family is running after him to do something in summer. His dad brings a dog to the house. With failed attempts to earn money, a falling out with his best friend, and a crazy dog. What more do you want in summer!

People who want to read something light and realistic fiction should definitely pick this up. What a strange feeling, it brings me back those not so pleasant but still pleasant memories from elementary and middle school.

Scott Pilgrim Vol 1Lately it seems that I have been getting the hang of graphic novels. After reading Saga I couldn’t control myself from wanting more of it. As I couldn’t get my hands on Saga volume 3 I decided to read Scott Pilgrim, a highly rated and recommended book in Goodreads. But I was very disappointed in this first installment of the series. I didn’t like the main character, Scott Pilgrim. It”s difficult to get involved in a story when you instantly take a dislike to the main character.

Scott Pilgrim, is a 23 year old wanna-be musician who’s dating a 17 year old high school student named Knives. He has no job and shares room with roommate where they literally share everything including bed(that is weird!) He keeps having dreams about another girl, whom he later sees in real life. Her name is Ramona Flowers a delivery girl, recently shifted there in the neighborhood. Scott becomes obsessed with her and cheats on his girlfriend, but being with Ramona is not that easy. Over the course of the series, he has to fight and defeat her 7 ex- boyfriends to get to be with her.

Ramona’s character was bit strange, coming in dreams was creepy. On the other hand Scott’s 17 year girlfriend was much likable and energetic. The thing about Ramona’s ex-boyfriends having to be defeated I don’t get it at all. She’s already dumped them, or they’ve dumped her, so why would they care if Scott wants to go out with her. That doesn’t make scene now does it? My rating: 2 out of 5. Art was real bummer here,a lot of characters looked so much alike. I am having second thoughts about continuing the series but at the same time I want to know if there is any agenda between these fights.

Saga Volume 2

I am pulling out the 5 stars, if you are a close follower of my blog you will know that I don’t do this often. But this book compelled me to do that. From starting to beginning the book was so fresh and stimulating. Brian K Vaughan’s epic Saga continues, as does the awesomeness from the first volume! If you haven’t read the first volume then better pick that up before you start reading this volume.

A couple of star-crossed lovers from two different species  who are on opposing sides of a danderous war are on the run in a wooden rocket ship with their infant daughter and her ghost babysitter. What can be more exciting than this? But baby Hazel has this strange adventure to face- her grand parents.

Saga Volume 2

I am so in love with this series. I wish I could get my hands on volume 3 as soon as possible. This is totally 6 out of 5 stars category. You will agree with me after looking at this picture of our handsome hero from the book 🙂

Saga Volume 2

Anya's Ghost

Recently I  have been reading a lot of graphic novels. Anya’s Ghost by Vera Brosgol  is a beautifully illustrated graphic novel about a teenage girl named Anya. It gets deeper into her life and her feelings as she struggles to maintain the cool at school. Being a immigrant from Russia she has to face so many things to get it straight. I enjoyed the beautiful art and  interesting story, even though the story feels predictable and old I am sure readers will enjoy it.

Anya Borzakovskaya  is got the normal teenage insecurities going on and her desire to blend in is compounded by being a Russian immigrant. She looks around her and sees skinny, blonde and effortless perfection compared to her. She is upset that her crush is going out with such perfect girl. She is not that good at making friends too but one day she finds this awesome friend who is ready to help her in everything. Her grades go up, she feels confident and beautiful. She has got this BFF who is fabulous but her best friend is a ghost. Now you will have to read and find out what happens next.

As the story was old school and easy to predict my rating: 3 out of 5. But it is a good book and I recommend this to graphic novel fans out there.

15704307I thought of reading a graphic novel and picked up Saga without reading any reviews or knowing what it is about. Holy Crap! it was amazing, I haven’t liked a comic since Walking dead. I usually read comics like Bleach, Fruit Basket and walking dead. But first time I read science fiction and it was so good. There’s so much here! The characters are dynamic, the narrator is a baby or rather an adult looking back to when she was a baby and telling the story of her bad-ass, intergalactic war deserter parents.

The story begins with the birth of Marko and Alana’s child, an anomaly that the leaders of her side want to capture. We learn about the hatred between their planets and war. There are soldiers from both the sides and bounty hunters chasing them but Marko and Alana have some other plans to escape. I don’t think I can review the book more than this.

My rating: 5 out of 5. I highly recommended this book to comics fans. I loved every character from this book and not to forget Lying Cat, an amazing feline who detects when someone is lying. If that’s not genius I don’t know what is.
