SpecialsSpecials is the third installment in ”Uglies” series. I liked the first two books but after reading this one I felt as if the series will never end! Tally, the protagonist female character of this book changes herself into every possible personalities available. First she was ugly then pretty and now she is special.

Tally is a special now, she has undergone this surgery to make herself super fast, skilled killing machine specially built to keep the uglies down and   pretties stupid. These special people are called as cutters, their main goal is to find New smoke and destroy it. But Tally is engineered to feel superior, she feels annoyed even in her pretty boyfriend’s company. She wants to change him into a special too, for that she follows a plan. A plan where her boyfriend can be turned into special and new smoke can be found and destroyed.

One of things I really enjoyed is how different Tally becomes in each book. From Ugly to Pretty to Special, her entire personality shifts and changes constantly as she undergoes not just plastic surgery, but mental surgery. But at the same time special Tally was annoying, it’s terribly frustrating knowing she’s been brainwashed, but she refuses to believe it. The way she looks down at her boyfriend made me hate her. But all together it was a bittersweet ending to the trilogy. Oh! wait, can I call it trilogy cause there is  4th book in the series- Extras. My rating: 2 out of 5. I would like to read and see what is there in the next book, but not right now.

City of Fallen Angels”City of Fallen Angels” by Cassandra Clare is the 4th installment in ‘The Mortal Instruments’ series. I knew it was not trilogy and a lot was kept open ended in 3rd book still the 3rd book felt like a right ending to me. The main villain was dead and romantic issues were solved and they lived happily ever after, right? Apparently not!

The war is over, Clary is back home with her mom and finally she can call Jace her boy-friend. Simon has new love interests and her mom is getting married to real love of her life. But the problems never seems to end. There is someone murdering the shadow hunters and provoking tension between downworlders and shadow hunters. Simon has his own problems to deal, his mother is freaking out after finding the truth about him. Jace has his own demons to fight, his nightmares are getting real.

I liked the conflicts and for my own surprise I liked this book better than the previous books. But Jace was really annoying and I felt frustrated reading their relationships going on and off. The ending OH GOD, there was this big cliff hanging moment which made me cry out loud with anger. My rating 4 out of 5.

The haunting hill house”The Haunting of Hill House” by Shirley Jackson was first published in 1959. What made me pick this book was very promising synopsis and a classic, gothic touch to it.  I love gothic fiction and the descriptions of creepy, unsettling hill house was just perfect. But somehow by the middle of the book I lost my interest. It was more of a mad roller coaster than a horror house story.

In The Haunting of Hill House, Dr Montague, an occult scholar, has gathered with three individuals selected for evidence of psychic abilities, in the old unoccupied mansion with its sad history of deaths, including suicide. The Doctor hopes to find solid evidence for what is called “haunting”. But the house is waiting patiently and planning to choose one person to control and make one of its own.

It was creepy in the beginning but then turned into a story about a young mentally unstable woman losing her mind. I Don’t see any logical explanations for the things they see or at least they think they have seen. There are lot of unexplained things and its upon readers to decide if the haunting was real or just imaginary. My rating: 2 out of 5. I have seen a lot of good reviews but I couldn’t make myself to enjoy this book.

Scott Pilgrim Vol 1Lately it seems that I have been getting the hang of graphic novels. After reading Saga I couldn’t control myself from wanting more of it. As I couldn’t get my hands on Saga volume 3 I decided to read Scott Pilgrim, a highly rated and recommended book in Goodreads. But I was very disappointed in this first installment of the series. I didn’t like the main character, Scott Pilgrim. It”s difficult to get involved in a story when you instantly take a dislike to the main character.

Scott Pilgrim, is a 23 year old wanna-be musician who’s dating a 17 year old high school student named Knives. He has no job and shares room with roommate where they literally share everything including bed(that is weird!) He keeps having dreams about another girl, whom he later sees in real life. Her name is Ramona Flowers a delivery girl, recently shifted there in the neighborhood. Scott becomes obsessed with her and cheats on his girlfriend, but being with Ramona is not that easy. Over the course of the series, he has to fight and defeat her 7 ex- boyfriends to get to be with her.

Ramona’s character was bit strange, coming in dreams was creepy. On the other hand Scott’s 17 year girlfriend was much likable and energetic. The thing about Ramona’s ex-boyfriends having to be defeated I don’t get it at all. She’s already dumped them, or they’ve dumped her, so why would they care if Scott wants to go out with her. That doesn’t make scene now does it? My rating: 2 out of 5. Art was real bummer here,a lot of characters looked so much alike. I am having second thoughts about continuing the series but at the same time I want to know if there is any agenda between these fights.

Blackout”Blackout” is the 3rd and final installment in Newsflesh Trilogy. Zombies, journalists,  bloggers and a dystopian twist there is a lot to like in this series. Here zombies are secondary but the problem caused by zombies takes the limelight. How some officials are misusing their power to take control over the people by loosing their humanity and acting more like a zombie themselves is the highlight here. This book was interesting than the first two, it was long but it wasn’t boring. There was excitement everywhere, things happened  and secrets were revealed in every chapter.

It all started in 2014 where the common cold and cancer was cured. Undead started walking around the earth killing and converting whoever crossed the path. But the world didn’t end, people found a way to live around this zombies. In 2039 Georgia and Shaun Mason started their adventure to set a biggest story of revealing the truth about these undead. Now in 2041 after loosing Georgia, Shane is the leader of the surviving staff of After the End Times. He is waiting for his revenge, to find out and kill whoever did that to his sister. There are mad scientists, zombie bears, and rouge government agencies they have to face and not to forget our evergreen zombies. Things are getting worse but the biggest secret is yet to reveal that is the re birth of Georgia Mason.

I was bit disturbed by the sibling love affair but then they were adopted so there is no blood relation. The ending made me happy but the same time left me kind of  heart broken. My rating: 4 out of the 5. I highly recommend this book to YA dystopian fans.

right-fit-wrong-shoeRight Fit Wrong Shoe by Varsha Dixit is an Indian contemporary romance. I don’t know after how many months I picked up a book from an Indian author. I bought this last year but as I was busy with my crazy project of  completing the series I didn’t get opportunity to read this. I loved the book ”Xess Baggage” by this author and was eager to explore more of her writing. As I expected this book was easy and interesting read, I read it in single sitting. The romance and the sexual tension between the main characters captured my heart.

Nandini is single and independent woman with a beautiful body and a good heart. There is nothing exciting in her life she is this average Indian lady who stays with her parents and does an average job. But she has a dark past which comes chasing her for revenge. This dark past which she is so scared of is her ex-boy friend Aditya who wants to ruin her life so badly. What is the story behind this love-hate thing? What did she do to Aditya to make him hate her? How her life will change after Aditya’s entry in her life once again?

It is totally cheesy, melodramatic Bollywood type novel. But I loved the chemistry and that little tension between Nandini and Aditya. Their chemistry was perfect, it has been ages since last time I read a novel this filmy. My rating: 4 out of 5. I am looking forward to read the sequel Wrong Means Right End.

The Fallen ”The Fallen” by Celia Thomson is the first book in ”Nine Lives of Chloe King”. I found this book to be captivating enough to have to read it in one sitting. I came to know that there is a supernatural TV series on ABC network based on a novel, before I started watching that I wanted to read these novels  very badly. I finished this book faster than I thought I would because it was really exciting.

Chloe King’s life was pretty average until she falls off the edge of a building and dies. Her body goes through some unusual changes of that of a normal teenager and she gets sharp cat like nails and reflexes. But suddenly she has this love life, there are 2 new guys in her life and a stranger who mysteriously  got a life threatening disease becuase of her. But the craziness does not end here, she has got this stalker who goes all ninja on her throwing blades and trying to kill her. Who is she? What is the secret behind her sudden changes? Who is this stalker and out of 2 boyfriends who can she trust?

I love cats, they are so cute and lovely. When I read the synopsis of the book I couldn’t stop reading right away. This book is unique and brilliantly written in such a way that the reader will not get bored. My rating: 4 out of 5, I highly recommend this to people who are into supernatural and were-fiction.
