City of glass”City of Glass” is the third book in the mortal instruments series. I liked this book better than the second one, but the first book is still my favorite in this series. I don’t know what to say about this series, its not AMAZING and it is not TERRIBLE. Most of the time I try to avoid book series, especially when there are more than three books. Because I know that once I start I can’t go back without reading the last book in the series.

Clary wants to travel to city of Glass to find answers and save her mother. But Jace doesn’t want to involve her in shadow hunter business and takes off to glass city with the others, leaving her behind. Unfortunately Simon is dragged into the mess and he is thrown into prison for no reason. Clary uncovers more about her family’s past and she finds an ally in mysterious Shadow hunter Sebastian. But there is some secret mission going on, of which no one is aware of. Soon Clary finds answers to all her questions.

My rating: 3 out of 5. I feel that author could have ended the story here, but there are 3 more books in the series. I would like to read and find out more.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid The Last StrawEvery once in a while you need a break from glowing vampires, horrifying werewolves, philosophies, sappy love stories and end of the world page turners. Every once in a while you need to forget that you are an adult now and read something funny which reminds you of your own childhood.

Greg Heffley and his family are back again and Greg is trying to get up the courage to ask out a girl while trying to keep himself out of military school. I was surprised to find out that this book was not nearly as good as the first two Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. I did not enjoy as much as the other two because the humor that kept me hooked was almost completely gone. But its Greg whom we are talking about who is high on smart and low on luck somehow there is humor wherever he goes.

My rating: 3 out of 5. I think the series kinda grow along with Greg. In this book  Greg was bit matured than the last one focusing on getting a girlfriend. There are 9 books in this series. 8 already published and the 9th one is getting published this year.

The Da Vinci Code The Da Vinci Code is  much discussed controversial book of Dan Brown. Believe it or not, last December I started this book  and just couldn’t finish it. I quit hundred times before I finally  finished the book. I really don’t know what was the big hype about but this is surely not what I expected. I liked Angels and Demons better, that’s the first Dan Brown book I read.

Symbologist Robert Langdon was supposed to meet Jacques Sonier one night and instead, he gets called to the Louvre, the scene of Sonier’s horrific death. French police officer, Fache, thinks that Langdon is the murderer. Fortunately, Sophie  intervenes to shunt Langdon away. And then they are off, trying to avoid being arrested, trying to find the “Grail”, and trying to discover who killed Sonier. Now what is this Grail and what is the secret Jacques Sonier was trying to protect even on his deathbed?

Spoilers ahead*

This book has been quite controversial.A lot of Christian and Catholic churches were not happy about the claims Dan Brown makes in this book example how Jesus married Mary Magdalene and how the Church was manipulative in hiding that fact. I am not from this religion so I don’t know much about this. I don’t know if Jesus was married, tradition has it that he was not. I don’t think if you have real faith in someone his marital status will not affect your faith. And more than anything this is just a fictional crime novel which revolves around religion.

My Rating: 2 out of 5. I didn’t like Langdon in this book. He spent a lot of time talking about history, symbols, sacred femininity. This book was boring with a capital ”B”.

City of Ashes”City of ashes” is the second installment in The Mortal instruments series. I have picked up pretty big series here now I will have to finish it. This book was an average read where it maintained the same voice from the first book. supernatural life, coupled with bits of Christianity sprinkled throughout makes for a fascinating read. It is like I don’t even like the book but I like the story. It has enough excitement to make you read the series, just to see what happens?

Clary’s life can never go back to normal becuase she is a shadow hunter and she knows the truth. But it seems like its geting more and more complicated. Someone in New York City is murdering Downworlder children. When the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul-Sword, is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor arrives to investigate and suspects her brother Jace for stealing it. Clary is still trying to control her feelings for Jace and she doesn’t want to hurt Simon either.

My rating: 3 out of 5. It is a good time pass read, I recommend this to Paranormal YA fans. But make sure to read the first book in the series before you jump into this one.

Battle of the Labyrinth”The battle of the Labyrinth” is the 4th book in Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson series. It is written for 8-15 year old and if you are really looking for something bigger then this is not your choice. The vocabulary is very limited and the story has same pattern. But if you are a fan of Greek Mythology then this book is made for you.

Percy Jackson is about to start his freshman year in school and but he doesn’t reach far. On orientation day he somehow gets into fight with demon cheerleaders. There is only one safe place to be in, that is Camp-half blood but there is a war breaking in and soon even the camp will not be safe for half bloods. Kronos’s army is planing to attack the camp through a secret gate of Labyrinth. Percy and his friends has to go for another quest to stop this invasion. But this time quest is dangerous, they have to go into the Labyrinth a sprawling dangerous underground.

Giving it 4 stars would be an injustice to other better books. It was fun to read, full of action but kind of predictable as previous books in the series. And the encounter with kronos was not that exciting so my rating is 3 out of 5. One more book to read in this series.

Fire Study”Fire Study” is the third installment of Study series. This book was bit difficult to get through. The plot was dull and progressed slowly. I don’t know what happened to Valek’s character and his heart of steal, now he acts like one love crazed teenager by calling her ”My love” through out the book.

When people come to know that Yelena is a soul finder people grow uneasy and scared of her abilities. When she realizes that her homeland is in danger she has to take the matters into her hands and until anyone believes her she has to hide somewhere and plan to win. Which can be a better place than Ixia? But if she goes to Ixia she will be proved a traitor by Sitian Law. She has to play this game slowly and carefully.

I don’t even remember how many times they encountered the enemy and how many times escaped. This story could have been better I don’t know why author lost the story here in 2nd and 3rd installments. I think that is what happens when you write an amazing book and decide to write sequels for that. It is very hard to write up to the standards of the first one. My rating: 2 out of 5.

I saw this while going through Goodreads and I had to post this awesome piece of art which very well describes the series.

Zom B UndergroundAfter devouring Zom-B by Darren Shan I was quick to jump into the second book in the series, Zom-B Underground. After the complete shock of book one’s ending, I just had to know what the author was going to throw at the readers next. This book was as good as the first book and I enjoyed reading it. It is a very short read (hardly 2 hours) and I finished reading it in one sitting.

After throwing Taylor to the zombies, B has been turned into one, and is being held at an under ground military facility after coming back to  consciousness. B learns that there are two types of zombies, revitalized and revived zombies. B is revitalized one she gets her memories and consciousness back while revived zombies are walking brain dead killing machines. There are many teenagers who are like her helping the govt to research zombies. Zombies don’t eat the the revitalized ones that is the plus point. But still B has got no answers to her questions about this zombie madness happening worldwide. But soon she will know enough to want to runaway from there.

This book also ends with suspense note, exactly as the first one ended. Unlike first book, this book has got lot of zombie actions. My rating: 3 out of 5. I am definitely continuing this series.
