4450057Assassin Study is a quick novella, following Poison Study,  to give a brief link to the Magic Study. I loved the first book. Poison Study in the Study series. I usually don’t like to read mini sequels following the main novel, because I find them unnecessary and useless.

As everyone is busy cleaning up the mess after  Brazell and Mogkan, Valek discovers that an assassin has gone to hunt down Yelena as she travels to her ancestral homeland. Valek rushes to Sitia to intercept the assassin and rescue his love. Will Valek survive in Magic land of Sitia?  Who is this assassin trying to kill Yelena?

Its a quick read of around 15 pages. My rating: 2 out of 5.  There is not much of a story here, so you won’t miss much if you skip it.

Racing-SavannahThis was the first book from Miranda that I’ve read. Even though this book is 4th in the ”Hundred Oaks” series it is not related to previous books so  I don’t have to worry about first 3 books in the series. This book is very romantic, heart touching and fairy tale like story.

Jack Goodwin lives in estate, rich and responsible. Savannah’s dad works for his estate training horses. She is aware that she can’t possibly wish for him to be with her but Jack has no boundaries when he starts liking her. She doesn’t want to live her life the way her father did, working for a minimum salary all his life trying to adjust. She wants something big for her so she stats off as jockey for Goodwin’s horse. Where will this forbidden love take her?

It was a good and very light read. It is a good choice if you are looking for refreshing your mood. My rating: 3 out of 5. I am eager to read other books from this series.

My life as a white thrash zombie“It reminds me of an old joke: What did the Zombie say to the whore?”
I looked at him blankly. “Um….what?”
He winked. “Keep the tip.”

My life as a white thrash zombie is the first book in ”White Thrash Zombie” series. In this book zombies are shown in different angle.  In every other book you might have read about walking dead zombies killing people mindlessly. But in book our zombie has a life which apparently sucks but like all normal teenagers it has problems in life.

Angel Crawford is your typical white trash chick with a pill popping addiction and with a addicted boyfriend living with her alcoholic dad in Louisiana. One day she finds herself in hospital waking up from a bad accident with no memory of what really happened. Hospital staff say that she was found butt naked lying on road but no one knows what is the true story. She finds a note addressed to her saying that she is required to take a job otherwise she will be dead, thinking that this note is from her parole officer and that she’s being threatened with jail she opts to take the job instead. Now she is working in Coroner’s Office as a driver and helper in postmortem of dead bodies. Angel starts noticing odd changes like how she’s somehow able to stand the sight of the dead bodies when before the accident she was squeamish from just the sight of blood. She also starts noticing that the bodies have a pleasant scent to them like chocolate and cookies and biscuits and gravy and everything else that was delicious. Bodies start turning up all over town with their heads missing and it begins to look suspiciously like a rogue zombie just trying to get his next meal. Angel is so close to find out who is the murderer but her suspect ends up as next victim.

There is a lot of humor and suspense which will make the book interesting to read. My rating: 3 out of 5. It is a must read if you are a zombie fiction fan.

Poison StudyPoison study is the first book in Study series and I totally liked the world created by author Maria V.Snyder. Great story development and amazing imagination.

Yelena is a orphan girl who is charged with murder and about to die. But she was given an option, quick death or slow poison. Upon her choice to become a food taster for the king she was given a slow poison, butterfly dust which will affect her if she won’t take the antidote everyday. Valek the chief of security who gave her the slow poison now has the antidote and makes sure that she can’t runaway with her new freedom. Slowly Yelena learns about different poisons and how to detect and check for them in food. If she fails in that then she is dead. But why is she a murderer? What is her story? Will she keep this job of food taster and wait for her antidote everyday?

I liked the romance blooming between Yelena and Valek. My rating: 4 out of 5. It is a total entertainer and a good read. There are 6 main books in the series and 3 sub books.

The darkest minds The darkest minds by Alexandra Bracken is the first book in ”The Darkest Minds” series. An absolutely spectacular dystopian novel that has the ability to captivate the reader on so many levels.

Ruby had lived 10 years of normal and safe life even though she has witnessed few of her classmate die due to mysterious disease. She never bothered about anything until she woke up on her 10th birthday and her parents reported her to police and along with a group of teenagers branded ‘dangerous’  she was sent to a  brutal government “rehabilitation camp.” These children might have survived the disease but they have emerged with something dangerous- supernatural abilities. After 6 years of torture and fearful life she escapes and joins the other kids to find a place where people like her are living safely. On the way to this place she falls for Liam a brave kid  with good heart but she can’t get near to him, not after what happened to her parents that night. Her powers are her curse but soon she realizes that she is more powerful than she gave herself credit for. People will try to use her powers in every way possible against government if they find out.

I really enjoyed reading this novel, my rating: 3 out of 5. I didn’t like the ending it was kind of predictable. But I am eager to read the remaining books in the series.

amelia anne is dead and gone”Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone” is YA fiction. It is a well written book with small town setting and parallel character development. The story goes around a murder case but if you think its just another crime novel, you are wrong.

Becca is a small town girl with her big ambitions to break free. But  discovery of an unidentified dead girl on the side of a dirt road sends everyone including Becca into into a tailspin. Becca’s summer and the last chapters from dead girl Amelia’s life are woven in parallel manner.

This book’s title and cover are captivating, despite my desire to like this book, it just fell short of every expectations. But have to agree with wonderful writing of Kat Rosenfield. But I personally did’t feel closer to any character. There was no love in relations and the characters were just twisted according to the plot. The ending was unbelievable and unsatisfying. Main story and sub story was tangled and at some point it lots its sense. Everything was so convoluted. My rating: 2 out of 5. I gave this rating by keeping the story in mind.  But personally I feel that Kat Rosenfield is a gem of a writer and her writing skills are amazing but just this story didn’t make sense to me.

HuntedHunted is 5th book in House of Night series by P.C Cast and Kristin Cast. To tell the truth I am bored, I don’t think I can take it anymore. This is really frustrating to read the same thing again and again. There is nothing new in this book, everything is repeated from previous installments with some additional new stuff. I don’t know how I can read 7 more books in the series.

When last we left Zoey, all hell  was breaking loose inside the vampire school. Neferet has called forth an ancient evil that cannot be destroyed. Kalona, a fallen angel and has declared war on all human beings. But Kalona thinks Zoey as his chosen one, one who trapped him inside earth decades ago. Now its Zoey’s responsibility to team up with her friends and send him back. Will she succeed in this impossible and dangerous mission?

I am kinda irritated by Zoey and her boyfriend trouble. Seriously she has got issues to select one guy for herself as she is confused and loves everyone. Now I understand why many people have stopped reading this series after this installment. My rating: 2 out of 5. I am not sure if I will continue reading this series, the myth part is really good but then the plot and story development sucks. May be I will  read the 6th book and give this series another chance someday.

CrossedCrossed by Ally Condie is the second installment in Matched series. First book – Matched was a good YA read but Crossed is boring without any action. Author could have given importance to story development rather than poetry.

Crossed picks up from where Matched lets off. Ky had been sent away to the Outer Provinces and Cassia is currently residing in a girl’s work camp. Now  Xander knows the truth about Ky and Cassia but still he is good to her. Cassia goes to outer province in search of Ky where she teams up with a girl named Indie, whom I found  kinda sneaky and secretive. Cassia and Ky’s relation irritated me to no end, their relation was supposed to be romantic one but instead it was irritative and plain. I liked Xander better than any character and sometimes wished Cassia could have chosen him instead of Ky.

Over all it was little boring, but if you liked Matched and want to read the complete series then there is no other option. My rating: 2 out of 5. Hopefully the third book ”Reached” (published in 2012) will be better than this.
