Are you there vodka it's me ChelseaChelsea Handler is a great writer. I have never seen any of her TV shows but I am sure it will be total fun to watch her performing. This book is witty, hilarious and absolute fun, or whatever way you want to describe comedy. I think I love her, she brings out the evil maniacal laugh in me. But everything in here is not mean comedy. I was sitting at my desk at work,  just laughing out loud and generally annoying my co-workers.

There is no proper story line as this book contains the incidents from author’s life. So I am not going to review this book. Here I will mention some hilarious sentences from this book, which made me laugh out loud.

  • “I went out with a guy who once told me I didn’t need to drink to make myself more fun to be around. I told him, I’m drinking so that you’re more fun to be around.”
  • “Obviously, if I was serious about having a relationship with some one long-term, the last people I would introduce him to would be my family.”
  • ”My negotiation skills are are on par with George Bush’s reading ability. And just like Dubya, every time I’ve tried to put forth an effort, I am reminded that my only true strength lies in drinking.”
  •  Our dog, Whitefoot, had died four months earlier, the day after my mother passed away. People say that pets can sense when one of their owners is dead, and I definitely believe that to be true. However, my father has convinced himself that Whitefoot died of a broken heart, when, in fact, I believe it was a suicide. Had we notfound him lying dead next to an empty bottle of Tylenol PM and what appeared to be the beginning stages of a suicide note, I would also have believed he died from sadness. I couldn’t blame Whitefoot. The thought of spending the rest of my life alone with my father would drive me to take my own life too”

My rating : 4 out of 5. Best book to read for time pass and laugh out loud.

SlammedThis book totally blew me away, an excellent book, shocked it’s a debut novel! There is a slam poet inside me so it didn’t take much to like the book. I was in love with it the second I started reading.

The characters were strong, compelling, and believable. The main character is Lake. Lake and Will and their ethical and moral dilemma shuts down their relationship. But they can’t change what they feel for each other even though it is not right.  Lake’s mother had a secret that turned their world upside down. I liked Will as he appealed to me as a very strong character with lot of burden on his life.

Inclusion of a poetry slam in the story is best. You can feel the pain, happiness of the poet in the slams. I just loved it and wrote few more slams but all looked like I got inspired from the slams from this book. One day I will have my own slamming blog 🙂 YA fans it is a best book to read! My rating is 4 out of 5.

Memories of a Geisha“The heart dies a slow death, shedding each hope like leaves until one day there are none. No hopes. Nothing remains.”

Memoirs of a Geisha is an amazing novel that discusses the life of a Geisha, a Japanese artist-entertainer. I’d been wanting to read this one for a very long time. I got mixed feelings while reading this book, so many emotions passed through me. I read this book last month and for almost 2 weeks I had hangover!

A slave, sold by your own family, and trained for the sole purpose of pleasuring men, whether you like it or not. Imagine living such a life where you don’t have enough happiness left inside you but still you have to make others happy.Geisha are not prostitutes, the happiness they give is purely from hanging around in tea house with gentlemen who seek their company and poring them tea, Sake and listening to their stories, telling them stories and jokes.

This is a story of a girl Chiyo who was sold into geisha training in Japan. Her struggles to achieve the goal and turn into a geisha. But this story is so unpredictable. Chiyo’s love for Chairman and Nobu’s interest in Chiyo, their customs and traditions to become Geisha is so complicated. I loved all characters even though some characters were real trouble to the main character.

I have watched the movie right after reading the book. In movie they haven’t changed much may be that’s why I liked the movie too. My rating is 4 out of 5 for this book. I recommend this book to fiction lovers.

The Godfather‘Friendship is everything. Friendship is more than talent. It is more than the government. It is almost the equal of family”- Don Corleone

”The God Father” is a classic of underworld mafia. I don’t know what to say about this book. It is excellent, well written nothing can be compared to this. This is epic!  This book started my long running obsession with Mafia.I haven’t watched the movie yet, I heard it is good too.

Everyone already knows the general plot of the Godfather so I am not going to drag it. Its about a man with power and a clear motive, Don Vito Corleone, totally love him. Sonny, Michael, Vito, Lucca Brazzi, Peter Clemenza were also great. This book is a moving puzzle. You are so confused about who is back biting who. Puzo’s novel brings to life the Corleone family and their tradition.

The Godfather is, in many ways, not just a novel – it is an experience. If you haven’t read it please read it. I am planning to watch the movie soon to give it some extra effect. My rating is 4 out of 5. I wanted to give 5 but then in some places I felt the story is been dragged too much!

Some Dashing dialogues from the book:

  • I’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse.”
  • “Revenge is a dish that tastes best when served cold.”
  • “Never hate your enemies. It affects your judgment.”
  • “The man with the briefcase can steal more money than the man with the gun.”
  • Italians have a little joke, that the world is so hard a man must have two fathers to look after him, and that’s why they have godfathers.”
