This is really a wonderful book. This touched my heart and  is the first Almond’s  book I’ve read.

It’s set in 1962 during the Cuban Missile and centers around the life of young Bobby Burns, an 11 year boy growing up on the East coast of England. Bobby’s life is so perfect, loving mother and father, and lot of friends and people around from the community who like him and protect him. But things are changing around. There is war now not any war but “Nuclear War”, Bobby’s dad gets mysterious illness and things at his new Catholic school is not good.

In between these he finds a  big, fire breathing strong man. What is he? Where does he come from?

A nice story about a boy and his fight with his own feelings. What happened in in the war, year of 1962. Its a children’s book, but the war concept and the effect of war on humanity is something that everyone should  read and learn about. I just picked this book in one  of this book sales, without even knowing, what book is this! Yeah sometimes I do that 🙂 Whenever I feel like buying books, I just buy books of  the authors, whose books I didn’t read till now . Its just my way of exploring world of books 😉
